READING COMPREHENSION - EXAM PRACTICE - BASIC LEVEL

Reading Comprehension and Test Preparation that will help you read and understand English and prepare for reading exams. Each set of exams has five types of exercises that you can see on the top menu: Signs / Details / Matching / Gist / Gap.

1) “Signs” – you are shown 5 signs, one at a time and asked to choose the meaning.2) “Details” – you are asked 10 true/false questions to see if you understand specific, detailed information from a reading.3) “Matching” – you read descriptions of 5 different people and then try to match them to a thing or situation that is best for them.
4) “Gist” – you are asked questions to see if you have a generalized understanding of a reading.5) “Gap” – you are given a reading with missing words. From a list of words, you choose and type in missing words.

Today you are having the first set of exercises. In the coming days, we will post other entries with more exercises.

Free Exercises: Cambridge ESOL Exercises

Practise for your Cambridge ESOL Exams with free exercises. You will find various types of exercise from the Use of English sections of these exams to help you prepare for First Certificate in English (FCE), Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).

Phrasal verbs. Ah! those little annoying things that the English use to make it difficult to learn the language!
But don’t worry, here’s an English test to confirm and/or improve your phrasal verbs knowledge. When you finish your test, you will immediately receive your score. You will also see all the correct answers!


GET has loads and loads of uses in English. There are 28 different GET phrasal verbs (get about, get above, get across and so on…) and most of these have 2 or 3 different meanings! So, I think we can all agree that really improving your English requires some practice with this very important verb. So try this GET test to learn some common-usage phrases that you might not yet be aware of.

When you finish your test, you will get the results immediately afterwards. You will also be able to view all the correct answers!
