RADIOSTATIONS

I know that some of you would be really keen on listening to real English on the radio so I thought these links to British radiostations could be of great help to you. I have thought that every time I come across an interesting English language radio station, I could add it to the right menu. So Check out the menu from time to time so as to see whether there is a new link.

These are the first radiostations on this blog:
KissCanaries is a local English language radio station broadcasting from Puerto de Mogan (99.4) to Maspalomas, Playa del Ingles and San Agustin (102.5) and along the entire south coast of Gran Canaria. You can always listen online at KissCanaries.com
LBC radio station broadcasts from London. It is talk radio for London on current affairs and news affecting London. Besides,not only do listeners hear about current issues but it also offers the chance to read them. It can be listened on www.lbc.co.ukThese are the first stations you could start listening to.

This is one of the most touching stories about the Holocaust. It is based on a book, also called 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas'. It tells the friendship between these two boys. It is worth reading it. I highly recommend it.

Step 3: Wait to shave

Shaving’s so annoying and it uses a gallon of water on average. So, men, grow a beard; ladies, wear pants or proudly sport hairy legs. If you don’t like the wild look, fill the sink halfway and rinse your razor, rather than running it under the tap; it doesn’t take that much effort to turn off the faucet.

Step 4: Turn to the dishwasher

When it’s time to wash the dishes, don’t. Leave them in the sink until you have a full load; then, use a dishwasher rather than washing them by hand — you’ll save yourself a lot of work along with an average of 5,000 gallons of water per year.

No need to unload either — just take clean dishes out of the dishwasher until the sink is full; then, load it up again.

Step 1: Live in a city

Live in a city: Urbanites own fewer cars, tend to live in energy-efficient apartment buildings, and don’t have much need for powered lawn mowers, a major contributor to greenhouse gases.

Painting a roof white reduces the energy needed to both heat and cool a building.

Step 2: Don’t assume local is better

Don’t assume that buying local is always better. Food miles — the distance food travels from farm to table — isn’t the only factor to consider: 80 percent of the carbon emissions from food production occur before shipping, and industrial farms tend to be more energy-efficient than smaller ones.

Step 3: Eat less meat

Eat less meat. The average American carnivore contributes 1.5 more tons of greenhouse gases per year than the average vegetarian. If you can’t keep away from beef, organic may be better for your body but not necessarily help prevent global warming: An organically raised cow emits 16 percent more greenhouse gases than a standard one.

Producing red meat generates 4 times the greenhouse gas emissions as an equal amount of chicken or fish.

Step 4: Support nuclear power

Don’t discount nuclear power if you want to help prevent global warming. Yes, there are safety and security concerns. But when it comes to large-scale energy sources, nuclear power is more climate-friendly than coal, gas, and even wind.

Step 5: Practice the three R’s

Practice the three R’s — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. And don’t give recyclables more than a quick rinse: For each ton of recycled plastic, consumers waste about 10 tons of water cleaning it.
